SALVATION:
“THE
TWO PART SYSTEM”
There are many scriptures that warn the believer about falling from their
present state of being saved, yet many other scriptures reveal that if one is
saved, they cannot loose that promise. How does one reconcile these
seemingly contradictory truths within the word of God?
Salvation,
which means safety or rescue, covers our past sins at the cross but does not
wash them away. We are merely rescued from them so God can work in us to
be what is necessary to receive Eternal salvation; which comes from obedience.
If one rejects the working of God in them, and refuses to obey His commands,
they are still under the law and not under grace. Gal 5:18 But if ye be
led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. However, God does not
expect perfection; it is in the attitude, not our ability. Without Him,
we can do nothing.
It would be
helpful to know some background of the feasts of God through Israel since they
are a picture of the church and the New Covenant. Because of the
importance of this fact, there is a section on the feasts in this website. (God's
Feasts)
I will begin
with Common Salvation which is received at the cross and accomplished by the
cross and the Lamb of God. I will end with Eternal Salvation which is
received at death, also accomplished by the cross but by a goat, Jesus Christ.
COMMON SALVATION (THE LAMB OF GOD)
The lamb of God takes away the sins of the world,
yet the world is not saved or rescued.
HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?
The following scripture is misunderstood because the translation is somewhat
vague in what was being said, however, this is the beginning.
First I will give the scripture with certain words bold and underlined, and
then give the same verse with the Greek meaning of those words.
Rom 3:24-25 (KJV)
Being justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom
God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith
in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the
remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance
of God;
Rom 3:24-25 (Words above being replaced by their
meanings.)
Being (regarded as innocent) freely by his (graciousness)
through the (ransom paid in full) that is in Jesus Christ whom God has
set forth as the (atoning victim, where atone means to make amends)
through faith in his blood to declare HIS equity of character, not ours, for
the (toleration not removal) of sins that are PAST through the (self
restraint or toleration) of God.
(Note: The word remission in this verse is the
Greek word for tolerate. In all other instances in the Bible the word
means freedom or pardon. This just adds to the understanding of this
verse in the context that it was meant. This is common salvation
accomplished by the Lamb of God. Now that we see that salvation here is
only to disregard our past, let’s go on and see what actually happens at the
cross and what comes through the cross but not at it. One could say that
both common and eternal salvation comes when we go before the throne rather
than the cross since that is where our lord is now. He is King of Kings
and Lord of Lords.)
1. We are reconciled.
2. We are bought and paid for, owned by the lord.
(Note: We can refuse ownership and
remain disobedient. Scripture says we are to
claim Him as lord not savior; and if we do
so in truth and obedience, He becomes our savior.)
3. Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become
servants to God, ye have your
fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
(Note: We become servants, not sons. We
grow from a child/servant to a son through our
willingness to serve like the prodigal son of
Lk 15:11. He was dead but lives AGAIN. This
is done through freedom from being a
slave to sin. It is a choice we must make, however; because
we can still choose to serve
sin rather than God.)
4. Gal 4:1 Now I say, That
the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth
nothing from a servant,
though he be lord of all;
Gal 4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage
under the elements of the
world:
5. Jn 14:15-17 If ye love me,
keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he
shall give you another Comforter,
that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the
Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot
receive
Jn 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy
Ghost, whom the Father will send in my
name, he shall teach you all
things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.
6. Rev 21:7 He that
overcometh shall inherit all things; I will be
his God, and he shall be my
son.
7. Gal 4:6-7 And because ye
are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your
hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant,
but a son; and if
a son, then an heir of God
through Christ.
8. Rom 8:14 For as many as
are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
THE CROSS (Accomplished by
the Lamb)
Jude 1 Written to the
Sanctified (to make holy,
purify)
Preserved in Christ
(to guard from loss or injury by keeping an eye on, not
to prevent from escape and not like a fortress)
and Called
(invited, appointed)
Jude 3 Jude previously wrote to them of the Common Salvation and
exhorted them
to earnestly contend for the faith
(Salvation
is finished by the cross but not at it or Jude would have told them that
they were in and it was done. However, he told them to earnestly contend
for the faith.)
Jude 4 Now certain men have crept in unawares (they
have settled alongside)
turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness
(sexual nonrestraint)
and denying the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus
Christ
and they are condemned
(Note: These men couldn’t slip in if they didn’t
believe in the
cross.
These deny the lord’s command to refrain from sexual activity outside
marriage. Jude is concerned that the saints will not contend for the faith and
will fall with these men into losing their present state of being saved.
They won’t lose the access but will fall under a condemned state where they
will be separated from God at their death. Now Jude gives examples of
falling from being a follower of God to a state of condemnation.
Remember, Jude is speaking to those who have come to the cross. We don’t
have to be perfect, but we do have to contend, to continue to follow and not
give up. Trust God, he loves you and died for you.)
Jude 5 After the lord saved his people out of Egypt; he destroyed them that
didn’t
believe (They didn't stop believing who God was because
it wouldn't be possible to forget about the parting of the red sea, the manna,
and the other things that were done in the wilderness. They just didn't
stand with God.)
Jude 6 angels
who didn’t keep their first estate, but left their own habitation are
reserved
in chains under darkness unto the judgment
Jude 7 Sodom
and Gomorrah and the cities around then gave themselves over
to fornication and going after strange flesh are set forth as an example,
suffering
the vengeance of eternal fire
Jude 8 these
filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, speak evil of dignities
(Note: These were not raising havoc or they would
have been kicked out. They were subtle in their approach and didn’t know
they were in a lost state. They were probably against the church leaders
who said abstain from fornication and hated Christ’s dominion over
them, though they did not hate his sacrifice for
them. They wanted their cake and eat it too. These ended up
leaving the church to start another or found one that spoke what they wanted
to hear. This is not happening too much in the church today because very
few are telling it like it is. Over time these have started many
congregations that tell the listener what they want to hear. That is
where many of our so called Christian bodies come from but they are false
teachers and are not going to enter the kingdom of God. The price is
high so earnestly contend. If a church tells one that it is easy because
no commitment or holiness is required; it is not speaking the truth of God.
If it does not say to earnestly contend, it is only telling half the gospel.
So we have it. Who is one going to follow, man’s doctrine, or God’s?
Now Jude goes on to say:)
Jude 17 beloved, remember the words spoken before by the apostles of our lord
Jude 18 there
would be some who follow their own ungodly lusts
Jude 19
The mockers be they who separate themselves,
sensual, not having the
Spirit
(Romans
is where many establish their once saved always
saved doctrine. Look at what it says and compare it to what Jude just
said.)
Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of
Christ? shall tribulation, distress,
persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword?
(Note: These are whats,
not whos, and the question was who shall separate
us. These are things that come in this life to strengthen us through our
trust in God.)
Rom 8:28 All things work for good for them who LOVE
God.
Rom 8:36 for
thy sake we are killed all the day long
Rom 8:37 in
all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us
Rom 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height,
nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love
of
God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord
(Again, the question is
who, not what and the answer is ourselves if we walk away rather than trust
God and his ultimate sacrifice for us. This was just shown in Jude 19
because if they do not have the Spirit then they are not standing in obedience
loving Jesus Jn 14:15-17. I will pick up the rest of Jude in Eternal
Salvation.)
THE LAMB (Accomplished at
the cross)
Again, for a better understanding of salvation it is good to know some
things about the feasts of God through Israel. A goat’s blood was
sprinkled on the people but the lambs blood was on
the doorway of the house. The people in the house covered by the blood
of the lamb had to:
Ex 12:8: Eat the lamb
Jn 6:55 Jesus’ flesh is meat
Ex 12:8:Eat
unleavened bread
Jn 6:33 The bread of God is Jesus
Jn 6:35 Jesus is the bread of life
Mt 26:26 Jesus body is the bread
(Note: Mt 4:4 Man shall not live
by bread alone but by every word out of the
mouth
of God, the meat.)
Ex 12:8 & 9:The lamb’s meat must be roasted with fire, not boiled or
watered down
Mt 3:11 We are baptized with the Holy Ghost and
with fire by Jesus
Mt 3:11 We are baptized with water by man showing, Rom 6:1-4, that we
are baptized into his death and raised again in newness of life to not
serve
sin.
2Pe 3:6 A world of sin
was cleansed by a flood of water but God promised
never again with water
1Pe 1:7 Our faith is tried by fire
Mk 9:49 Everyone shall be salted with fire and
every sacrifice with salt
Ex 12:11:People in
house must have loins girded
Eph 6:14 Our loins are to be gird with truth
Ex 12:11:People
must have shoes on their feet
Eph 6:12 Our feet are to be shod with the gospel of
peace
Ex 12:11:People
must have the staff in their hands
Mk 6:8 Jesus sent out His disciples two by two with only a staff
(Note: He had just given them power over unclean
spirits. The staff is a sign of
strength and our strength is in the lord.)
Rev 2:26-27 And he that overcometh, and
keepeth my works unto the end,
to
him will I give power over the nations: 27
And he shall rule them with
a rod
of iron
Rev 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who
was to rule all nations with
a
rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
(Note: The bride of Christ is caught up, not Jesus.
Jesus ascended.
The church is the body of Christ but only those obedient become the bride and
are
taken out of the body, like a rib, and are raptured.
The remainder of the body does
not go and their fate is explained in Rev 7: 9-14. God does not give
dirty robes.
These are also one of the two witnesses, the candles of Rev 11:4, because
candles
are the church, Rev 1:20.)
Ex 12:13:If the blood is on the house where one is, God will not destroy
them
Heb 3:6 We are God’s house and Christ is over us
ETERNAL SALVATION
The second sacrifice of salvation is eternal but is received at our death.
You see, one is judged righteous or unrighteous by God. Upon receiving
this judgment, one receives his eternal destiny. Heb 9:27 It is
appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment.
Eternal salvation is finished by the cross but it is not received at the
cross. This gift is gained at ones death. When one continues
following Christ they know in their heart they shall receive it though, this
is faith.
HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?
THE CROSS (Accomplished by the Goat of God)
Heb 5:9 Christ is the author (means causer)
of Eternal Salvation to them that obey
(Note: Jesus does not command us to believe.
He commands those who
do believe and have come to the cross to be a doer of the word.
Hearers
only are deceiving themselves, Ja 1:22. )
Jude
20 But ye beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy
faith, praying in
the Holy Ghost
Heb 12:14 FOLLOW peace and holiness without which no man shall see
God
Jude 21
Keep yourselves in the love of God
looking for the mercy of our lord Jesus
Christ onto eternal life
Jn 15:10 if ye keep Christ’s commandments ye shall abide in His love
Rev 19:7 the bride of the Lamb of God makes herself
ready
Jude 22 of
some have compassion, making a difference
Jude 23
others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment
spotted by the flesh
FEAR
Ps 111:10 the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom, a good
understanding have they who do his commandments
Pr 1:7 fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge, fools despise wisdom
and instruction
Pr 9:10 fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge
the knowledge of the Holy is understanding
SPOTTED GARMENTS
Rev 3:4 A few in the church at Sardis have not defiled their garments and
these shall walk with Jesus in white (Sardis is an
example to all)
Rev 7:9&14 a great multitude in white before the throne missed the rapture
and
had to go through the great tribulation to wash their robes in the
blood
of
the lamb (Note: God does not give dirty robes.)
THE CAUSE OF SALVATION
2 Thes 2:13 salvation through sanctification
of the spirit and belief of the
truth
Eph 5:25&26 Christ loved the church enough to give himself for it that He
might cleanse it with the washing of water by the word
(Note: Notice how one must be sanctified by the word and not only by the
blood by believing. This shows that Christ died for the church giving
access
so
he could cause eternal life by the word spoken to them. That is, if one
is
obedient.)
THE GOAT (Accomplished at the cross)
Mt 5:17&18 Jesus came to fulfill the law and not one little part will
pass away till all
is fulfilled
Heb 9:19
Moses took the blood of calves and goats to sprinkle the book and the
people
Heb 9:22
without shedding of blood is no remission
Heb 9:23 the
patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but
the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these
(Note: Sacrifices is plural revealing the goat and
the lamb. It was one sacrifice,
but fulfilled more than one.)
Heb
9:26 Jesus put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Heb 10:26 if
we continue to live in sin willfully after the knowledge of the truth,
the sacrifice is of no effect for us.
(Note: The word scapegoat came from the sacrifice of the goat standing in for
the
people. The goat died in their place. Jesus was and is our
scapegoat.)
Hebrews goes on to say in chapter ten that the one sacrifice did it all for
the sanctified and their sins will not be remembered by God any more.
Sanctification did not come at the cross but it did come through it as
explained later. This section goes on to say:
Jesus says come as you are because we cannot fix ourselves. It is only
through him that we can change and be holy/sanctified.
Without holiness we can not see the lord (Heb 12:14). Do not stop
following. Jesus has promised that He is able to change us. If we
walk away or do not repent, which is to try to change, God is not obligated to
us any more; though he continues to knock. God loves you and wants to
help you.
THE FEAST OF ATONEMENT
This feast lasts for one day and is held on the tenth day of the
seventh month. It has two parts to it:
Redemption and Judgment. The redemption was
fulfilled at the cross for them who believe but the judgment is still to come
and entails the judgment of Israel and the judgment of the world. The
judgment of the house of God was first 1Pe 4:17 and already finished for the
rapture.
ITEMS USED FOR
ACCOMPLISHING THIS FEAST
THE BOX The Jews had a box for this
feast with two pieces of wood in it.
1 piece of wood said "For the Lord"
1 piece of wood said "For Asazel"
(an angel that fell with Satan)
THE GOATS
They would use two identical goats to sacrifice for this feast.
One was
for
the Lord and the other was for Asazel.
THE THREE RED
THREADS One was for each goat and one was for the door
of the temple.
THE ACTIONS TO FULFILL THIS FEAST
The high priest would take one piece of wood out of the box with his
right hand. The right hand was for the lord
and the left hand was for Asazel because the right
hand was used for dipping their bread in the pot of stew and the left hand was
used for urination and the like. In that time there would be one common
pot of stew for everyone, not like today where all have their own plate or
bowl. From the time of Moses and Aaron until 30AD the piece of wood
always said "For the Lord". When Jesus died for us, the wood piece came
out "For Asazel".
Of the three
red threads one was placed on the right horn of the goat
for the Lord, one was placed around the neck of the goat for
Asazel, and the third
was nailed to the door of the temple. The goat for the Lord was then
killed and the blood used to sprinkle the utensils, book, alter, people, etc.
This goat was offered for atonement of sins. The high priest then
placed his hands on the head of the other goat and placed the sins of Israel
on it as the Scapegoat, a word commonly used today. This goat was then
taken outside the city where it was pushed off the cliff. The cliff was
outside the dung gate of Jerusalem at the valley of
Gehena where the trash and dung burned in a fire that never went out.
Gehena is also a word for hell. When the
scapegoat died the thread on the door to the temple turned white miraculously
until 30AD when the Law was fulfilled by Jesus and became the scapegoat for
us.
NEW TESTAMENT GOATS AT
THE ALTER OF CHRIST
Jesus - The goat for the Lord, blood offered
Barabas - The goat with sin turned loose
Barabas was not the man's name that was turned
loose, but a title. His real name was Jehoshua
(Jesus). It is curious indeed what the title
Barabas stands for. Bar is Greek for son of, and
abas
is Greek for exalted father. When this title is spoken it means
Son of the exalted father.
NEW TESTAMENT THREADS
This was portrayed by the three crosses.
The one on
the scapegoat at the cliff ------------ The thief not accepting
The one on
the sacrificial goat at the alter ----- Jesus himself
The one on
the temple door ------------------- The thief that accepted Jesus and
turned white
Is 1:18 Sins like scarlet shall be white as snow
Sins like scarlet shall be white as wool
