DESTINY OF BABYLON
I. INFORMATION
A. IDOLATRY, TO GOD, IS WHOREDOM
Nu 25:1-2 Israel abode in Shittim and the people began to commit
whoredom with
the daughters of Moab and they called the
people unto the sacrifices of their
gods: and the people did eat,
and bowed down to their gods.
Jer 3:9 And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom,
committed
adultery with stones and with stocks.
Ez 16:17-18 Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of
my
silver,
which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images
of men, and didst
commit whoredom with them, and tookest
thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set
mine oil and mine
incense before them.
B. THE PLAYERS
1. THE ASSYRIAN
a. WHO IS HE?
Is 14:4 The king of Babylon
Is 14:12 He is Lucifer
(Satan)
Is 14:25 The Assyrian
b. HIS PARTICIPATION
Hos 11:5 The Assyrian shall be Israel’s king because
they would not
return to
the lord
Is 10:5 The Assyrian is the rod of the Lord’s anger
and the staff of
his indignation
Is 10:6 He is sent against a hypocritical nation (Israel)
He is given charge of the people of God’s wrath
Is 10:7 He goes too far
Is 10:13-15 He says in his heart that he has done all
that has been
done, when it was through the lord
(note: Nebuchadnezzar does this in Daniel,
chap. 5)
Hos 5:13-15 God will tear Israel as a lion and leave,
until
they repent and seek his face
Is 10:12 When the lord’s work is done, he will punish
the Assyrian
Is 23:13 The Assyrian founded Babylon
2. THE KING OF BABYLON
a. See The Assyrian above
3. THE KING OF TYRUS (TYRE
IS THE SAME CITY)
Ezek 28:12 A lamentation for the king of Tyrus
Ezek 28:13 Thou hast been in Eden, the garden of the lord
Ezek 28:14 Thou art the anointed Cherub
Ezek 28:15 Thou was perfect in all thy ways since thou wast
created,
till
iniquity was found in thee
(note: This is the king of Tyrus, not the
prince in verse 2)
C. THE HARLOT CITIES
1. BABYLON?
(note:
Babylon is not called a whore.
She is a mother of harlots in
other biblical passages, and Jerusalem is her daughter. Harlots entice, but
with
Babylon it
would be more like rape.)
2. JERUSALEM?
II Chr 21:11 The king of Judah made high places in the
mountains of
Judah, and caused the inhabitants of
Jerusalem to commit
fornication, and compelled Judah
thereto
Ezek 16:15 Thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst
the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy
fornications on every
one that passed by
Ezek 16:25 Jerusalem hast opened thy feet to everyone that
passed by,
and
multiplied thy whoredoms
Ezek 16:26 Thou hast also committed fornication with the
Egyptians thy
neighbors, great of flesh, and hast increased
thy whoredoms, to
provoke me to anger.
Ezek 16:29 Thou (Jerusalem) hast multiplied thy fornication in
the land
of Canaan unto Chaldea
Ezek 16:44-52 Jerusalem has committed worse abominations
than Sodom or Samaria and
is like her mother, Babylon.
Hos 4:12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff
declareth
unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath
caused them to err, and
they have gone a whoring
from
under their God
Hos 5:4 They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God:
for the
spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and
they have not
known the lord.
3. TYRE
Is 23:15-17 It shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall
be
forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one
king: after the end of
seventy years shall Tyre sing
as a harlot. She shall turn to her hire,
and shall commit
fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon
the
face of the earth.
(note: Sounds a
little like
Jerusalem.)
II. BABYLON’S
WORLD CONQUEST
A. HER START IN CHALDEA
Is 23:13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans. They dwelt in the
wilderness
till the
Assyrian built towers and palaces and founded it. He also
brought it to
ruin.
Jer 50:1 The word of the lord against Babylon
Jer 50:2 Babylon is taken
Jer 50:3 Out of the north comes a nation against her, which shall make
her land desolate, and
none shall dwell therein: they shall remove,
they shall depart both man
and beast. Jer 50:4-5 This happens
when the children of Israel and Judah come
seeking the
lord,
looking for a perpetual covenant that will not be forgotten.
B. HER MOVE TO
TYRE (TYRUS)
Jer 47:4 Because of the day that cometh to spoil ALL the Philistines and
to cut off
from Tyrus and Zidon, every helper that remaineth
Jer 47:6 This is by the sword of the lord
Rev 6:4 The second rider takes the earth’s peace, kills, and is
given a
great
sword.
Jer 47:2-3 This is when a great army comes from the north
Ezek 26:19 The lord brings up the deep on her and covers her with
great
waters
Zech 9:2-4 The lord smites Tyrus power in the sea but casts her out
C. HER MOVE TO CHITTIM (ROME
OR EUROPE)
Is 23:1 Tyre is down, revealed from Chittim
(note: Chittim is
Greece and Rome.)
Is 23:7 Her feet carry her far off.
Is 23:4 The sea has spoken, but not the sea of men
Is 23:11-12 The lord commanded Tyrus to go to Rome, but will have
no
rest there
Is 14:13 The king of Babylon, verse 4,
(who is
actually Satan) says that
he will
ascend into heaven, exalt his throne above the stars of
God
(the saints), and
sit upon the mount of the congregation
(the holy mountain).
Dan 2:33-34 His legs were of iron, his feet part of iron and part of
clay. The stone smites the
image on the feet.
Dan 2:41 The kingdom shall be divided.
(note: The legs are not connected as the arms
were of the Medes
and Persians. This kingdom is truly divided, because it is divided by time
as
well
as within
itself. This kingdom will return.)
Rev 17:10 There are seven kings:
five are fallen, one is, and the other
is not yet
come.
(note: As the angel was speaking to John, the
king that is, was
Rome.
The other is not yet come, refers to the other half of the divided kingdom.)
D. HER MOVE TO JERUSALEM
Dan 11:45 He shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the
seas
in the glorious holy
mountain.
(note: The holy mountain is
Mt. Zion, Jerusalem.)
Mt 24:15 The abomination of desolation stands in the holy
place
III. BABYLON’S
END
A. BABYLON
Dan 5:26 God hath numbered thy kingdom and finished it
Dan 5:27 Thy kingdom is divided AND given to the Medes
and Persians.
(note: The word “AND” indicates that there are
two
things happening.
According to the image of chap. two, it is divided. Now is
the time of
the
Medes and Persians. It also means split
between the two kingdoms, so
it would fit
the present time.)
Is 13:17 I will stir up the spirit of the Medes against them
Is 13:19 Babylon shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and
Gomorrah
Jer 51:11 The lord hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes:
for his device is
against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the
vengeance of the lord,
the
vengeance of his temple.
B. TYRUS (TYRE)
Ezek 26:4-14 Nebuchadnezzar comes against her but the lord makes
her
like the
top of a rock, a place to spread nets
Ezek 26:19 I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are
not
inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great
waters shall cover thee
Ezek 27:32 In their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee,
and lament
over thee, saying, what city is like Tyrus,
like the
destroyed in the midst of
the sea.
C. CHITTIM (ROME OR EUROPE)
Dan 11:20-21 Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the
glory of the
kingdom; but within few days he shall be destroyed,
neither in anger,
nor in
battle. In his estate shall stand up a vile
person to whom they shall
not give
the honor of the kingdom:
but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the
kingdom by
flatteries.
(note: This is the divided
kingdom of Rome. The first
one ends without
war,
and the
second comes with ten kings committing fornication with the
great whore.
A little horn
comes up and gets in with a seven year peace
treaty and promising spoil.)
Rev 17:16 The ten horns of verse
three hate the whore and make her
desolate
(note: This is done from
Jerusalem.)
D. JERUSALEM
(note: This actually occurs in the time of
Jacobs
trouble,
the great
tribulation.
Israel has been caused to return in order to
start their seventieth
week of
Dan 9:24, but this is not the time that God brings
them back to live in peace with no fear)
IV. THE WOMAN AND THE WHORE,
OF REVELATION
CHAPTER 17
A. THE GREAT WHORE OF REVELATION
Rev 17:2 The Great
Whore with whom the inhabitants of the earth
have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication
Rev 17:1 Sitteth upon many waters
Rev 17:15 The waters are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues
Rev 17:2 with whom the kings of the earth have
committed
fornication
1. HER
JUDGMENT
(The whore is judged, the woman is
revealed)
Rev 17:16 The ten horns:
1. hate the whore
2. make her desolate and naked
Ezek 16:39 They shall strip thee of thy clothes and
jewels
and leave thee naked and bare.
3. eat her flesh
Mica 3:1-3 They eat the flesh of Israel as in a caldron
Ezek 24:1-10 Jerusalem is a pot, consume the flesh
4. burn her with fire
Is 4:24 Jerusalem shall be burning instead of beauty
Jer 38:23 Thou shall cause this city to be burned
Ezek 15:2-5 Jerusalem is like a vine, good for no work so
she shall be burned
Is 5:1-3 She brings forth wild grapes
Mt 22:1-7 God burns Jerusalem because she killed servants
(note: there is a mix here of
Rome and Jerusalem. The
last ten kings
burn Rome, but God burns Jerusalem.)
B. THE WOMAN OF REVELATION
(Rev 17:7 The mystery of the woman.)
Rev 17:3 She sits upon a scarlet colored beast
(not on many waters)
Rev 17:4 She was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with
gold and
precious stones and pearls
Rev 17:4 She had a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and
filthiness of
her fornication
Rev 17:5 She had a name written upon her forehead
MYSTERY BABYLON – THE GREAT – THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH
Rev 17:6 She was drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood
of the
martyrs of Jesus
Mt 23:34-37 Jesus sends prophets and wise men and scribes and some
of
them shall Jerusalem (verse 37) kill (These are the martyrs
of Jesus)
Upon Jerusalem comes the blood of all the righteous
shed upon
the earth.
Rev 17:9 She sits on seven mountains
Rev 17:18 She is that great city,
which reigneth over the kings of
the earth.
